Pixie chose her new owners, they didn't choose her. She wandered around Geraldton, spotted a nice tree lined street opposite a park, decided on what looked like the best house on the block and settled herself in there nicely. The owners of this home were happy to foster Pixie whilst we found her somewhere more permanent. However, after the first enquiry, they quickly decided she had won them over and they could not bear to part with her. Pixie enjoys smooching, lazing about or leading other dogs around by their leads. |

Sisters Mindy and Maddison, Ridgback/Staffie X's were 5 weeks old when they were found dumped and deserted in a beer box in the Greenough bushland. They were dying of dehydration and malnutrition when a caring man found them and rushed them to the vet. A GDR foster carer took them into her care four days later. After days of cooking special meals, two hourly feeds and lots of love, the puppies started to thrive. It took them some time to really love humans and enjoy cuddles. What a sad start to life but GDR has helped them have the life they could only have dreamed of.
Maddy was rehomed in November at 8 weeks of age, to a lovely family with three children who just adore her. Mindy goes to her new home on the 9th December and will enjoy living with a family of four from England. Mindy loves jumping up on the couch every night to have cuddles and enjoys rugby tackling with her Kelpie friend Ebonie. The foster carer's are going to miss her terribly. |

Flame was a male Ridgback who was terribly neglected by his owners who left him chained up with no food or water whilst they were out of town. Flame had the good sense to escape and was soon found wandering the streets with a heavy linked chain dragging behind him. He was placed in the Geraldton pound and was due to be euthanised. Fortuntately, a kind hearted GDR volunteer called into the pound to see what dogs were available for rehoming. The volunteer was so distressed when she saw the state of Flame that she burst into tears and informed her husband that he must come home with them. It was impractical as they were to go away the next day but she knew she could not walk away from this dog (especially when he slowly walked over to her and through the cage placed his paw in her hand and stared into her eyes).
Flame was rescued and taken to the vet to check if he was salvageable or not. Luckily for Flame, the vet was also kindhearted and immediately fell in love with his gentle nature and doggie charm. Within 24 hours she decided to adopt him. So this very lucky dog (renamed "Bronson") now lives with a lovely vet and her partner who just love him to bits. When found, Bronson weighed only 17kg. He now weighs 38kg and his owner has him on restricted rations from time to time!
Recently he won a trophy for obedience at dog training. Go Bronson! |
